Reminds me of Darwinia <3

Great concept

boticelly responds:

I'm glad you've liked it!

I think your premise is interesting, but the way it is developed it's quite unplayable... here are some tips:

- Add a starting screen with some instructions on how to play (that's vital - the info you wrote are quite cryptic)
- The screen scrolls down when the cursor hovers over the three (turrets?) at the lower left

That said, I truly wasn't able to build a single turret, as clicking on them does nothing... am I doing something wrong, am I missing something? Again, there's why instructions are vital. I'll gladly revisit my review as soon as I know how to play the game :)

Nice! But after resetting a level, the character promptly starts running instead of waiting for the click input

Catalystl responds:

Thanks for the feedback. I wanted to avoid having to start the level over and over again when resetting, and you can still read the text when you die, since I placed the text boxes in spots where the fail text won't overlap it.

Also you can't interact with the environment on the prompt to start the level if that was your complaint, you can only do so once Josh starts moving. The game isn't a puzzle, it just has light puzzle elements.

I enjoyed both art, music, and concept!

madmediawiz responds:

thanks for feedback! Glad you enjoyed it.

I think that adding gravity to the game was an interesting feature in gameplay (I've never seen an Arkanoid-like game using gravity mechanics); also, I liked the bent pad - makes bouncing more realistic. That said, I missed some powerups - without any stimulus for keeping playing, the game quickly wears off the interest for going on. Overall, nice game!

I really enjoyed the retro feel of your game! Here are some tips for making it even better:

- Music's good, but at times it gets a bit buzzy, crunchy to the ears... perhaps if you soften the tunes a bit, remove some of the noise, it'll sound more pleasant

- Felix' house seems so bare! Perhaps some simple furniture, like a bed, lampshade, and simple deco like a rug, a mat, might give it a cozier feel!

- I ran into two bugs (one of which made me stuck by the time I write this review); some times the movement locks up at a direction (right), I noticed it happens some times after pressing Z; the other bug is in the computer lab game, when the character jumps over the gap - I need to jump and press right at the right screen border for getting to the next screen. I got stuck there, because after jumping the second gap the character just vanishes to the far right side of the screen.

That's a promising project, some more polishing and I'm sure it'll score neatly! Keep safe and godspeed :)

L-Vireo responds:

Thanks for telling me! I'm already working on some different music as well as fixing the Adventure Boy segment. That is the first time I've gotten feedback on Felix's house though, so I very much appreciate you bringing it up! But I don't think I'm quite familiar with these movement locks you're referring to. Could you please clarify?

P.S: Here's a video I made on how to get past Adventure Boy. You aren't the only one who's had trouble with that one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-Aw1w-0VFo&feature=emb_logo

Took me seven years to discover this game, and I am so glad I found it

Confusing... but fun!

Half an hour later and I'm still laughing
